Management Development Programme
This is the latest update on the progress of the Management Development Programme. TfE has designed six modules with core competencies in mind. The Interviewing Skills (Module A) will be renamed, as Staff Recruitment Course and The Service is designing this module.
Planning and Organisation (Module D) will be renamed, as the Staff Appraisal Course and The Service will be designing this module.
Employment Law (Module E) will be sourced externally and will not be delivered by TfE.
As at 31 July 2002, we had received 329 applications for modules from 110 managers. The breakdown is as follows.
Interviewing Skills (Staff Recruitment Course) 59
Leadership and Team Development 50
Interpersonal Skills 30
Planning & Organisation (Staff Appraisal) 53
Employment Law 17
Developing People 40
Service Delivery 16
Managing Change and Uncertainty 40
Problem Solving & Decision Making 24
Applications have been received from across The Service and most are from AOR and B1 grades. These applications are recorded on a database for information management. All managers are reminded that if they have not completed their MDP module application form, then it is still not too late.
It is advised that you should apply for one module per form, as this will allow enough room for TfE/HR to determine your objectives for each module.
On completion of your self-assessment sheet, should you discover that you have scored some 2s and are not sure whether to apply or not then you need not apply at this stage as you will have the option to re-visit those areas in six months time and complete the process again.
The MDP focus group met on the 12th July to discuss six of the modules, the structure and content has been agreed and this information will be on the intranet. Dates of MDP modules will be on the intranet. The delivery of modules will be by Training for Excellence and The Insolvency Service with members of the MDP focus group involved along with HR.
Please note that MDP covers core needs, and there is also provision made for needs over and above core management skills. Dates have been agreed with TfE for delivery of the first series of modules and participants will be contacted shortly.
